Homeschooling on the Road: Lessons From Our Costa Rican Life

Traveling and living full-time in Costa Rica has given our family a unique perspective on life, education, and adventure. For my niece, homeschooling isn’t confined to a desk—it’s a passport to the world. Whether she is sitting at home online learning with Time 4 learning or at the market learning how to convert colones to dollars, everyday is always a lesson for her.

Education Meets Exploration

Every trip we take doubles as a lesson in geography, history, or science. One week, we’re learning about volcanic formations at Arenal; the next, we’re understanding ecosystems in Cahuita National Park. My niece’s textbooks come to life as she surfs the pristine waters of the Caribbean and observes wildlife in its natural habitat.

A Family Affair

Our adventures wouldn’t be complete without Titus, our protective yet lovable dog. Whether we’re hiking through jungles or strolling local markets, Titus is right there with us, making friends (or barking at strangers). Traveling as a family has deepened our bond, teaching us teamwork and resilience.

Living abroad has also allowed me to balance work, teaching, and creating content for my skincare and beauty business. It’s a juggling act, but one that feels rewarding. We’re not just surviving—we’re thriving, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
